What these numbers do (and don't) include

Baby expenses aren't the same for every household. Two families can spend wildly different amounts depending on where they give birth, whether they use infant care, how they feed their baby and how much equipment they already own. This calculator helps you see how those decisions change the first-year total, without pretending there's one correct amount.

Hospital bills. The starting maternity figures are based on typical MOH hospital bill benchmarks for uncomplicated deliveries, before MediSave or insurance reimbursements. One delivery is counted even for twins. Multiple births, complications, ward choices and neonatal care can change the bill significantly.

Infant care. The Anchor Operator and Partner Operator figures are planning inputs based on published fee caps, before any applicable GST or extras. The Basic Subsidy is modelled simply; Additional Subsidy eligibility and minimum co-payments are not calculated. Change the figures to match your centre's quote.

Everything else. Diapers, milk, GP and paediatrician visits, baby gear and other costs are illustrative estimates, not national averages or The Tofu House's actual expenses. The calculator excludes prenatal packages, lost income, Baby Bonus/CDA contributions and insurance claims. Check your own quotes before making decisions.
