Like many home owners in Singapore, we buy a lot of home essentials from Shopee. While some have been great purchases, others have been a source of deep regret 😞
We purchased most of the items here because the reviews seemed good and the prices were very affordable. However, we have since learned to be a little more discerning!
We thought it would be useful to share our top Shopee regrets as a reference for those who are also looking to make similar purchases for their containers!
Mistral Instant Water Heater with Rain Shower and DC pump
We’re not exaggerating when we say this is possibly the worst home purchase we made from Shopee.
For some reason, this is always leaking water from both the shower head and the rain shower. This happens even long after we have switched off the heater. Aside from the water wastage, it’s very jarring to suddenly hear water leaking in the toilet, especially when we are in another part of the house.
The pump is also very noisy when we switch it on, and makes for a rather disturbing shower experience.
We’ve heard from other home owners that this has happened with their Mistral water heater as well. Hence, we’re pretty sure this is not a one-off issue with the items we received!
Unfortunately there’s no resolution to this (yet)… the only one being that we switch out all our water heaters completely.
Heavy duty steel platform trolley
We bought this when we were moving all our Taobao loots and existing belongings to our new house. Tofu G had found this cheap listing on Shopee and thought it would be a good idea to invest in one.
It certainly served its purpose of transporting – actually managed to even transport our lights (track lights, casings and all) – but the wheels were just way too noisy.
Adjustable clothes peg hanger
We were exploringways to hang extra laundry on our Steigen (another questionable item we installed in our house) and came across these hangers. They seemed great for hanging smaller pieces of laundry like towels and socks.
However, we realised that these hangers have a fixed shape and there’s no way we can close them to take up less space. They certainly aren’t the best option out there so it definitely ranks among our top regrets!
Long handle removable wall brush
Actually Tofu G said this was his most regrettable Shopee purchase… However, we also take into consideration that this is much cheaper and easily replaceable as compared to the water heaters.
We thought this would be useful for cleaning our toilets but the hinge is way too loose, so there’s no way we can’t scrub the toilet walls hard and clean enough.
Bamboo charcoal pouch
We saw a few people sharing that they bought this bamboo charcoal pouch. Apparently it helps to get rid of the formaldehyde smell in new carpentry and also keeps it dry. It wasn’t expensive, so we bought a few to keep around our cupboards
Our verdict: no idea whether it really keeps our carpentry odour-free, but ended up breaking and dirtying our carpentry with A LOT of scattered charcoal powder. We’re sticking to our formaldehyde gel and dehumidifier boxes from now on.
