We have moved into our current house for 6 months! 🥳
By now, we’ve purchased most of the furniture and appliances we need. Along the way, we realised that there are a few common household items which we have consciously chosen NOT to purchase.
We thought it would be interesting to share some of these and see if other homeowners agree!
TV

The tofus initially did plan to put a TV in the living room so that they can watch shows & videos while working out in the home gym.
However, we barely watch TV and don’t play video games, so we find it quite a waste of money to invest in a TV if we’re not actively using it.
Some suggestions we received were to buy a projector, which would be more flexible & budget-friendly. At the moment, we are seriously considering this option!
Dishwasher

Some beans have encouraged this for easier washing up.
However, we both agree that this is quite an unnecessary expense – at least for us.
As a small household, we really don’t have a lot of dishes to wash. It also uses electricity, which manual washing doesn’t!
Dryer

We got an automatic laundry system (Steigen Solar Pro) which comes with its own drying solutions instead!
We’ve heard that using a dryer may potentially damage clothes, and we have quite a few clothes that need to be washed by hand and cannot be tumble-dried.
The Steigen also takes up less space in the service yard as it’s installed on the ceiling.
Water dispenser

Many people have extolled the virtues of one, and frankly we did think this was nice to have. But again, they could simply boil water or add ice.
There are also some options out there which include filtering water and making it alkaline. We both don’t believe in alkaline water or the need to ‘filter’ water again after boiling, so nothing could convince us to purchase this.
Coffee machine
Tofu V missed having a capsule machine (had one in her old home) but Tofu G enjoys brewing his coffee by hand. It certainly takes a bit more time!
However, we found that it is much cheaper and easier to maintain than a coffee machine in the long run.
If you’re on a tight budget or struggling to decide if you need these as well, we hope their reasons convince you that you don’t have to buy them – at least, not in a short period of time!
