As strange as it may sound, Tofu V is a huge fan of Poo-pourri ever since she discovered it a few years back.
For the uninitiated, Poo-pourri is an odour freshener (aka toilet spray). If you haven’t seen it before, this is how it looks like:

They don’t retail in Singapore supermarkets and pharmacies, but they are available on platforms like Shopee! Other than being a little difficult to purchase, the other downside is that they are extremely expensive, costing at least SGD14 per bottle!
We have tried using reed diffusers in the toilets but found that they weren’t very helpful, so we decided to try a DIY project: making our own Poo-pourri!
Ingredients needed for DIY Poo-pourri (toilet spray)
A quick search online showed that Poo-pourri is made of essential oils and other natural compounds, which coat the surface of the water and supposedly holds in bad odours.
Hence, all you need are a few essential ingredients:
- Isopropyl Alcohol (or rubbing alcohol, commonly used to clean home surfaces!)
- Essential oils
- Travel-sized spray bottle(s)

Steps to making your DIY Poo-pourri
1. Pour about 30-50ml of Isopropyl Alcohol (or rubbing alcohol) into a spray bottle.

2. Add a few drops of your favourite essential oil into the spray bottle.
We recommend adding quite a fair bit (~30 drops) for a decently strong spray scent.

3. Give the bottle a good shake & stir.

4. Pour some distilled water to fill the rest of the bottle.

5. Put the spray cap back on, and you’re done!
How long does DIY Poo-pourri last?
We have not had our sprays for very long, but a quick search online will tell you that most DIY essential oil sprays last about 6 months before the aroma begins to weaken.
We hope this quick DIY project helps to freshen up your toilets and save your wallets!
